Wolf Pen Gap Trail totals has numerous loops and three trailheads that provide parking. Primitive campsites are available throughout the area. Some private campgrounds and cabin rental proprietors cater specifically to ATV riders.
This well-known ATV trail is very scenic, featuring high mountain vistas and crossings at Board Camp and Gap creeks. Riders travel through a mixed forest and rugged, steep areas leading to ridge tops. It is classified easy in some sections and for experienced riders only in others. There is no fee for trail use, although donations are accepted in donation tubes at the trailheads.
The trail is open year round except for modern gun season, which lasts from (Nov 1st)
through the 2nd Friday in March with the exception of:
1) 3 days before and 2 days after Thanksgiving
2) Christmas Day through January 2nd.
Occasionally the trails may be closed due to weather, so, always best to contact the Mena Ranger Station at the number below before planning your adventure in the Ouachita Mountains.
To reach Wolf Pen Gap, travel about 9 miles southeast of Mena on Ark. 8 and turn south on Ark. 375, which passes the west and south trailheads. Entry to the trailheads is clearly marked. For more information, contact the Mena Ranger Station at (479) 394-2382.
