Wolf Pen Gap Trail totals 31 miles with numerous loops and three trailheads that provide parking. (The trail was 41 miles, but 10 miles were closed.) Primitive campsites are available throughout the area. Some private campgrounds and cabin rental proprietors cater specifically to ATV riders.
This well-known ATV trail is very scenic, featuring high mountain vistas and crossings at Board Camp and Gap creeks. Riders travel through a mixed forest and rugged, steep areas leading to ridge tops. It is classified easy in some sections and for experienced riders only in others. There is no fee for trail use, although donations are accepted in donation tubes at the trailheads.
The trail is open year round except for modern gun season, which lasts from mid-November until early December.
To reach Wolf Pen Gap, travel about 9 miles southeast of Mena on Ark. 8 and turn south on Ark. 375, which passes the west and south trailheads. Entry to the trailheads is clearly marked. For more information, contact the Mena Ranger Station at (479) 394-2382.
